"Real World benefits to LED Conversion"

There is much discussion regarding the potential benefits from a wide scale conversion from conventional lighting to LED.  This session will explore the experiences of Regent University and will cover not only the energy costs but also the benefits of an overall reduction in ongoing maintenance  and man-hour allocations.

Humidity Happens, Mold Doesn't Have To

Participants will examine scenarios whereby HVAC equipment fails to satisfy latent (moisture) removal requirements necessitating the need for supplemental dehumidification.  Real world case studies will be examined and discussion will include the dangers of elevated humidity to property and people.  Participants will learn methods to identify and resolve dangerous conditions to prevent the growth of mold.

Photoluminescent Emergency Egress Marking Systems

The speaker will provide the audience with an introduction to photo-luminescent (PL), or "glow-in-the-dark", emergency egress markings as it pertains to building code requirements for safety, commonly used applications, and cost saving benefits.  These Exit signs, low location egress pathway markings and general safety signs are sustainable, LEED-certified, and can earn LEED credit points for building owners in green building design and construction.  Case studies will be offered that demonstrate "the good, the bad and the ugly" of PL Products.

This presentation goes through these four modern day fire events and how they impacted NFPA codes:
1. MGM Grand Hotel Fire;  2. The Station Night Club Fire;  3. 9/11 World Trade Center Fire;  4.  Seton Hall Fire
Each of these fire events will be broken down so that the attendee will understand what happened, why, and how it changed our codes.  Finally, the presentation will discuss how facility support personnel can impact the fire safety in their everyday actions.
